One of the biggest questions of the trade show circuit revolves around whether to use banners or banner stands. While banner stands often give you versatility, they also tend to make transportation difficult. While both banners and banner stands are good options for your next event, banners are typically available on shorter notice. When making your decision, it usually comes down to what you need from your signs.

Banners need to be attached to something

Banners are a great way to draw attention in a crowd. The only downside is that they have to be attached to a wall, or something else. If you don’t have a banner stand available, you have to make one of your own. How easy this is largely depends on the layout of your trade show or booth. Sometimes it’s easy, but more often than not you have to wrap your banner around something. Turning the corner cuts off part of your message and won’t help you make your best first impression.

Banner stands are more difficult to transport

Bringing your own banner stand allows you to set up your banner anywhere and in different conditions. On the other hand, banner stands themselves can be difficult to transport. While finding banner stands that are built to be light and portable is possible, you usually have to ask your print shop. Default stands often prove difficult to carry, pack, and set up. However, you don’t need to make special provisions for your banner if you stick to the default banner. Sometimes you only need it for one location, or you can choose  your ideal locations. This makes it easy to ensure that hanging your banner is easy.

Banners can be made on short notice

Getting a banner on short notice is easy. Getting a banner stand? Much harder. It’s easier to print a banner than to order a banner stand. If you find yourself in a bind and you need a banner right away, you can’t assume that you can get a banner stand on short notice.

Banner stands help make your tradeshow set up easier. For example, you don’t have to cherry pick your booth locations to ensure you have a place to hang your regular banner. Banner stands allow you to set up your banner anywhere, as long as there’s room . Without one you have to rely on hanging it from your booth or a wall. On the other hand, banner stands can be difficult to get on short notice. They can also be difficult to transport. If you’re going to be moving it around a lot, it may be better to skip the banner stand.
